UK Heatwave 2006 PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 20 July 2006

Britain has been having a heatwave! A real one this time with temperature records being broken in many areas. One member reported two days ago that it was 99F in the shade - that really is hot for the UK.

The appliance of science keeps one Dandie family cool!

During this heat, Dandies really appreciate being able to keep cool. Even those Dandies who hate water can be seen paddling with their undercarriages gently lowered into the water for 'coolth'. Dandies from puppyhood are good at finding places to keep cool - stone floors, doorways, under bushes and cold water on their necks, directly or in a towel, can reduce heat in an overheated Dandie.

But one Dandie person decided to use science! Aircon is still unusual in British homes especially old ones which can have walls that are two or three feet thick. This member decided to make his own for the sake of the Dandies. Using the principle of air conditioning, he hung up a bag of ice over a large fan and the Dandies just loved the wonderful cool air! Full marks for ingeniousness and devotion to duty with all the work of keeping the icebag full of ice!
