Dandie Dinmont Terriers in the UK

On 5th November 2006, the Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club (CDDTC) held a 'landmark' event at the Tate Hall, Kelso. Using their Championship Show as a springboard, the doors were opened for everyone to see what a special breed of terrier they intend to save from the brink of extinction.

With unprecedented Press and Radio coverage, people travelled from all over Scotland just to meet a Dandie Dinmont and they were well rewarded by the largest gathering of Dandies and their Breeders seen in Scotland for many years. After that it was simple because Dandies are the best Ambassadors for Dandie Dinmont Terriers one could ever wish for and once anyone has met a Dandie they will never forget them.

The hall buzzed with Dandie discussions whilst Mike Macbeth, the charismatic Chairman of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club of Canada, inspected and judged the excellent examples of Dandies in the show ring who were competing for Best of Breed.

The excitement, enthusiasm and enjoyment of this newly found audience demonstrated that Scotland really does care about this important part of their heritage and the CDDTC Committee returned home even more aware of its responsibility and duty to protect and preserve the very special Dandie Dinmont Terrier.

...and what did Kelso think of this invasion? Well the Kelso Postmaster brought his family, other locals publicised the event and our dear Hallkeeper, after she had worked hard all day, confessed that the Dandie Dinmont Show was her favourite event of the year.

Finally a huge thank you to all the Dandie Dinmonts who worked their little socks off - it wasn't just the humans that were exhausted at the end of the day!
