The Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club Committee strongly recommends that your Dandie is tested by an Ophthalmologist for any signs of narrowing of the drainage angle, by gonioscopy.
It is recommended that this painless test is caried out, for a Dandie showing no signs of narrowing at the first test at 2 years or earlier, approximately twice more at, for example 5 years and 8 years of age. As Dandie owners ourselves, we appreciate how expensive it can be to travel to and pay for eye testing so, for our Caledonian Members, we are offering to subsidise the FIRST testing of each Dandie. On receipt of 'proof of testing' (we respect your privacy so a monetary receipt is all we require), we will refund £5 for each initial gonioscopy on each Dandie. [note: this offer will not apply to an already discounted eye test]. We are able to do this because of the many donations to our Health Fund and a special donation of £300 from the Dandie Dinmont Trust - very grateful thanks go to everyone for making this possible. Sadly, although it is a rare occurrence, several of our members have now had experience of this disease and are always willing to offer moral and practical support to you. If it happens to yours, remember that your Dandie doesn't know that blindness isn't normal and you will be amazed at how quickly your Dandie adapts to its new life. Just contact us and we will share our experiences with you. |
