theandrewarthas One woman's experience with Dandie Dinmont Terriers in Mini Agility and Obedience, Yvette Andrewartha shows you her Dandies really enjoying the challenge and training. From Purdie the puppy's 'sit stay' through Bonnie and Tilly's more advanced activities you can now throw away your conception that your Dandie is untrainable.

motivation, body language and verbal communication

Yvette writes:

"The Dandie is a highly intelligent, agile and flexible terrier who enjoys the stimulus of training. 'Highly intelligent' means that they can provide you with a challenge but it also means that  training will open up a completely new facet of their personalities to you.

I have trained all my Dandies in obedience and heel work and they even dance with me. You can see from the pictures that they really love agility. They are quite capable of tackling the obstacles in an agility course but not at height or speed. It develops their balance and poise and their zest for life. Their biggest handicap is me - a novice trainer!

Purdie in Training

Go to a good training class and learn the techniques. It's all about motivation, body language and verbal communication and is a fascinating step into what makes the dog 'tick'.

My dandies are now in the advanced class at our training club doing retrieves, searches, long distance control, scent and search. Of course 'play training' can begin at any age but jumping and agility should only be for Dandies of 12 months or older."
