Judges report added 13th April 2008 see below

Welcome to Crufts

What a tag line: 'The Greatest Dog Show in the World', but the UK can be really proud that Crufts is definitely a 'world class' show with over 160,000 visitors (10,000 more than expected) and 23,000 dogs entered for the competition. It was so busy that on the third day, Saturday, they closed off the Arena area due to overcrowding and the DDW Team can vouch for the fact that it was packed!

Best of Breed Ch Inzievar Silver Gilt

All those pre-Crufts ideas of picking up a bargain, finding that special little pair of grooming scissors, refurbishing the whelping unit etc soon were dissipated by sore feet and arms pulled out of their sockets. Why was everything that one needed so far away from the Dandie Benches in Hall 2? The final straw, perhaps contributed to by the newly-launched-at-Crufts 'Croft Lightweight Show Grooming Table' that wasn't (test the weight before you buy!), was the realisation that two Pedigree carrier bags containing only chicken gravy bones and green lipped mussel chews for the Senior Dandie Dinmont Webmaster were just too heavy to carry back to the benches and eternal thanks go to the anonymous Pedigree employee, normally on the factory production line, who just enjoys helping folk and who volunteered to carry everything back to our benches.

Judge with Dandie Dinmont Crufts 2008 WinnersOur Judge, Margaret Nicholson, found her Best of Breed and Dog CC  in Ch Inzievar Silver Gilt, bred and handled by Frances Chapman-King and owned by Mr G and the Late Mrs I Buist and Frances' late mother Mrs Jamieson. The Bitch CC was awarded to Ch Cloverwood Border Belle owned, bred and handled by Glen Tinsley. Best Puppy, bred and owned by Glen Tinsley, handled by Mike Macbeth of Canada, was Cloverwood High Flyer.

Reserve Dog CC was Glen's Ch Cloverwood Black Pepper and Reserve Bitch CC was Thomas Cameron's Ch Inzievar Silver Bonnet.

Judges Report:

I would like to thank those who entered under me at Crufts. It was an honour & a pleasure to judge at this prestigious show. A large entry of 83 surely bodes well for the future of the Dandie.
In the younger classes, I was surprised & disappointed how many front feet were not straight, & there were too many level front teeth throughout the entry. Tailset & carriage need to be watched in future breeding. A tail carried too high really spoils the unique outline of the Dandie.
Back movement has certainly improved over the last ten years. There were a lot of novice handlers to whom I wish good luck. They did well. There are still a huge variety of types in the breed, some of which are not true to the Standard. What needs striving for is consistency combined with quality. I was delighted with my main winners who were lovely examples of the breed.

VD (3) 1 MacInnes’ Ch Glencobo Wrekin Lad at Bettymac, looking good & happy at 9½ years old. Beautiful head & neck set into well set shoulders, correct shape body, well muscled legs. Good pepper coat. Moved soundly; 2 Perry’s Somercloud Tinkerman, good coated pepper. Correct shape, wonderful teeth, moved well; 3 Coleman’s Follycot Frank Lee, nice head & expression, correct textured pepper coat. Preferred shape of 1 & 2.
PD
(6,1a) 1 Tinsley’s Cloverwood High Flyer, rich coloured mustard with gorgeous head & eye, giving him a beautiful expression. Long neck & neat shoulders, correct body shape. A little leggy at this stage & rather proud of his tail; 2 Cooper’s Margham Feather Duster, has all the essentials. Nice head & eye, super teeth, good length of body & well set tail. Just moved enough with his novice handler to see he was sound. Should do well with more practice; 3 Butcher’s Puddockswell Gorgeous George for Daiszanna, lovely head & expression on this good coated mustard. Correct shape & size. Moved soundly.
JD (6) 1 France ’s Torbrae Dance N Dazzle, very shy & immature feminine mustard, but she has a lot of quality. Beautiful outline, good head, eye & fine ears, correct coat coming. Moved soundly. Needs more time & tuition; 2 Cox-Purcell’s Cloverwood Red Alert at Puddockswell, lovely head & expression, good length of body with correct shape, nice colour & texture mustard coat. Another who, with practice, should do well; 3 Cooper’s Margham Feather Duster.
