Judge's Report - Brian Kerrush
As convenor of the club, I was honoured
to be asked to judge the Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club Championship Show at the Tait Hall, Kelso
on 4th November 2007.
There was a higher than average entry,
with few absentees, and some top-quality specimens. As usual, I note
that hind action is poor across the board and many (including some top
winners) failed in correct topline, being quite level.
MINOR PUPPY DOG (5,0): 1, Tinsley's Cloverwood
High Flyer, smart mustard baby, well put together particularly in forehand.
Head right for his age, good expression, well pigmented and with well-set
ears. Good length of neck on to the best of shoulders and pleasing length
of body. Moved well both ways - very promising. 2, Butcher's Puddockswell
Gorgeous George for Daiszana, similar to the winner but perhaps lacking
a little more body; didn't go as well behind but very pleasing, with
a lovely expression; 3, Cox-Purcell's Cloverwood Red Alert at Puddockswell.
PUPPY DOG (7,0): 1, Tinsley's Torbrae
Dance and Dazzle to Cloverwood; mustard baby, full of himself and showing
well all day. Pleasing expression, masses of topknot and in good coat.
Well put together, moved well both ways and with plenty of drive, BPD;
2, Cox-Purcell's Cloverwood Red Alert at Puddockswell, another mustard
of type, pleasing expression. Reluctant to move so difficult to assess,
but looks promising; 3, Hulme's Hendell Mr Jingles.
JUNIOR DOG (1,0): 1,Cox-Purcell's C Red
Alert at P.
SPECIAL YEARLING DOG (1,0); 1, Fisher's
Mosterdale Who Dares Wins at Gypsywish. A pepper boy, a bit on the small
side for a dog. Well presented, head a little weak, good outline but
crabbing on the move - I would like more of him and a more masculine
expression.
NOVICE DOG - no entries.
GRADUATE DOG - no entries.
POST-GRADATE DOG (1,0): 1, Fisher's Dengold
Captain Archer of Gypsywish, mustard, more masculine than kennelmate
from previous class. Good head and expression, pleasing front, but topline
lacking and not going well behind.
LIMIT DOG (3,2): 1, Cadwallader's Bettymac
Sun Samba. Impressive mustard with strong head and profuse topknot,
well-presented and in good coat. He moves well both ways, but to be
critical I would like more spring of rib and more arch over loin.
OPEN DOG (3,1): 1, Buist and the late
Mrs Jamieson's Ch Inzievar Silver Gilt. Strong, masculine pepper who
excels in head and body. His head is strong and well-domed with a very
masculine expression. Beautiful topknot, lovely length of neck on top
of perfect shoulders. His topline and tail carriage are superb. He moves
well both ways, keeping his outline and covering the ground with drive.
Today his coat was the best I have ever seen it - he is a joy to go
over. DCC & BIS; 2, Bannister's Ch Banburg Alfresco. Well-known
mustard, excelling in head. Good expression and nice coat but not as
good in shoulder as winner. This affects his front movement and I would
also prefer more spring of rib. Moved ok behind - RCC.
VETERAN DOG (3,3): A very fit bunch for
their ages and very difficult to split. 1, France's Ch Vistca Veronya
at Cloverwood, bouncey mustard showman. I have awarded him a ticket before,
he is a quality dog and carries his age well. Won on topline and coat;
well presented and moved well; 2, Buist and Chapman-King's Ch
Inzievar William Wallace. Another old favourite - quality mustard with
good head and expression, great topline and moving well, just lost out
on coat, which is going over; 3, McInnes' Glencobo Wrekin Lad at Bettymac.
MINOR PUPPY BITCH (6,6): 1, Chapman-King's
Inzievar Gold Edition. Raw mustard baby but with bags of promise. Super
head and expression which will only improve with maturity, excellent
topline, which she kept on the move and sound both ways; 2, McKenzie's
Avonview Liatm, different type to winner, square pepper lady with good
expression and in good coat. Moved well but rather longer in the leg
than 1; 3, Hunter's Puddockswell Hootin' Annie at Etsill.
PUPPY BITCH (7,1): 1, Butcher's Pitfirrane
Hollyberry for Daiszana. Sound as a bell pepper bitch, handy size, nice
expression, good length of neck on good shoulders, pleasing length of
body, moved well both ways; 2, McKenzie's A Liatm; 3, Cox Purcell's
Puddockwell Legend Belle.
JUNIOR BITCH (4,1); 1, Shore's Swanwillow
Savannah, smart mustard girl, up to size but nicely proportioned. Excellent
head, good length of neck on good shouders. Moved well both ways and
should trouble the best when mature; 2, Hunter's Hendell Sweet Pickle,
pepper in good order. Nice overall outline, moved well both ways but
lost out on expression, which could be more feminine; 3, Skitt's Deegandan
Belsay.
SPECIAL YEARLING BITCH (4,2): 1, Shore's
S Savannah; 2, Tinsley's Cloverwood Absolute Angel. Smart moving mustard
bitch with good outline maintained on the move; preferred head and expression
of the winner.
NOVICE BITCH (2,0): 1, France's Torbrae
Daisy Dreamin'. Bouncing mustard bitch shown in good hard condition.
Excellent head and expression, profuse topknot, good body, full rib
arched over loin, moved well both ways, keeping body shape. Showed like
a trooper and must have a bright future; BP; 2, Roberts de Fernandez'
Hendell Thornbird, pepper in need of a coat and a tidy up, moved quite
well - good topline.
GRADUATE BITCH (1,0): Hulme's Hendell
Miss Marigold. Thick-set mustard bitch, rather wide in front, nice expression
but not a happy girl.
POST GRADUATE BITCH (2,0): 1, Fisher's
Gypsywish Ruby Tuesday. Rather plain-headed mustard, presented in good
coat but did not move well behind; 2, Cox-Purcell's Hendell Peppermint.
Out of coat mustard, rather wide in front, moved ok behind but overweight.
LIMIT BITCH (5,2): 1, Jarvis' Mostarlada
Shooting Star. Very honest mustard, good head, expression and well put
together. Moved ok but without drive. 2, McInnes' Bettymac Jenny Wren.
Another well-constructed mustard, nice head and expression, good topline
and movement, but a shade higher on the leg than the winner; 3, Oakes
and Searle's Oakseal Zephyr.
OPEN BITCH (5,2); 1, Cameron's Inzievar
Silver Bonnet. Same type as dog
CC winner in every way, but feminine.
Moved well both ways but lacked sparkle on the day. RCC; 2, Tinsley's
Ch Cloverwood Border Belle. Much to like about this mustard champion.
Good expression, moved ok but failed in topline to winner; 3, Hislop's
Ch Inzievar Sterling Silver.
VETERAN BITCH (6,0): 1, Hislop's Ch Mosterlada
Wild Heather of Inzievar. Pepper bitch presented in top form - lovely
expression, excellent conformation, excels in topline and spring of
rib. Shown in the best of jackets and moved beautifully both ways, maintaining
her topline and with perfect tail carriage - BCC & RBIS; 2, Jarvis'
Mosterlada Foxy Lady. Very similar type to winner - a worthy champion
but lacking drive on the move and not in good coat; 2, Bennie's Bettymac
Victoria Mae.
SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (2,0): 1, Cox
Purcell's C Red Alert at P; 2, Shortman's Avonview Ben Bhrea.
SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (1,0): 1, Cox-Purcell's
H Peppermint.
MARY SCOTT STAKES (1,0): 1, Fisher's
M Who Dares Wins of G.
NANCY PATTERSON STAKES (6,0): 1, Hislop's
M Wild Heather of P; 2, Jarvis' M Shooting Star; 3, Hislop's Ch I Sterling
Silver.
STUD DOG - no entries.
BROOD BITCH: 1, McInnes' Bettymac Elizabeth;
2, Jarvis' M FLady; 3, Hulme's Brackenford Capricious of Hendell.
BRACE: 1, Hislop; 2, Fisher; 3, Jarvis.
TEAM: Jarvis.
